Under India's DPDP Act, consent is the backbone of how you handle visitor data. A pre-ticked box or a vague 'by signing you agree' line doesn't cut it. Here's what valid consent looks like at reception.
What valid consent looks like
- Free and informed — the visitor understands what's collected and why.
- Specific — tied to the purpose (managing and securing the visit), not open-ended.
- Clear notice — in plain language, shown at the point of collection.
- Withdrawable — the visitor can withdraw it as easily as they gave it.
- Recorded — you can show consent was given, and for what.
At the front desk
Capture consent digitally at check-in with a short, readable notice — not buried in a logbook header. Collect only what you need, and for identity checks, verify without storing the Aadhaar number.
See the DPDP Act and visitor data for the wider picture. Certopact captures consent at the point of collection by design. This is general information, not legal advice.
