One of the first questions in a visitor management project is deployment: cloud or on-premise? Both can work — the right answer depends on your security posture, data-residency needs and IT capacity.
Cloud
- Faster to roll out and manage across many sites.
- Automatic updates and lower IT overhead.
- Look for data residency options (e.g. India hosting) to meet local requirements.
On-premise
- Data stays entirely within your own infrastructure.
- Appeals to the strictest security and air-gapped environments.
- More IT effort — you own updates, uptime and scaling.
The offline question
Separate from cloud-vs-on-prem is whether entry works when connectivity drops. In India, offline identity verification (OVSE) keeps gates moving regardless of the deployment model.
How to decide
Weigh data residency, security requirements and IT capacity against speed and cost. Most organisations are well served by cloud with strong data-residency and offline verification — see the buyer's checklist and the visitor management system overview.
